Garden/Northwestern Graduate Program
Three students, including from China, were selected from a pool of national and international candidates for the Ph.D. program. There are now five Ph.D. students. The master’s degree program continues to grow, with eight new students and a total of 21 currently in the program.
Science Career Contiuum
The Garden’s new five-year Science Career Continuum received funding from the Environmental Protection Agency to connect Science First and College First—existing outreach programs for underserved teens in the Chicago Public Schools—directly into the Garden’s master’s and doctoral programs with Northwestern University; the National Science Foundation-funded Research Experiences for Undergraduates program; and the Bureau of Land Management CLM Internship Program. The Garden will continue to grow its investment in educating African-American and Hispanic environmental scientists for the critical decades ahead.

Academic Programs
Academic Programs: Vision
Participants in the Garden’s degree and adult education programs will become better stewards of the natural world.
Graduates of the degree programs will actively address issues of plant biology and conservation.
The adult education and certificate programs will create better informed and engaged citizens who will make positive impacts on the environment, environmental policies, and funding decisions at local, national, and international levels.
